Biography
Dr. Lawrence A. Schiffman is a Board Certified general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatologist practicing in Miami, Florida. Dr. Schiffman graduated with honors in microbiology from the University of Miami, Florida, in May 1996. As a New Jersey native, he received his medical degree from the School of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in May 2000. In June 2001, Dr. Schiffman completed his internship at the Kennedy Health System and Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey. He later completed his dermatology residency at St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, New York.
During his academic studies, Dr. Schiffman volunteered his time as the national director of AIDS awareness to promote increased awareness of sexually transmitted diseases and AIDS. Through this experience, he became nationally recognized as a public speaker and educator. He has published numerous articles in various medical journals throughout his career and often presents lectures.
Before his residency, Dr. Schiffman completed a 4-year combined Dermatology/Tele-dermatology fellowship at Derm Dx Centers for Dermatology in northeast Pennsylvania. During that time, he utilized tele-dermatology to provide dermatological services to the inmate population of the Federal prison system and subsequently, to the international cruise line industry. Currently, Dr. Schiffman provides tele-dermatology to his patients, both near and far.
Finally, Dr. Schiffman maintains active membership in numerous state and national medical associations, including the American Osteopathic Association and the American Medical Association, as well as many dermatological societies. He is board-certified in dermatology through the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology. He is a clinical instructor of dermatology for both students and residents in the South Florida region. He maintains affiliations with Nova Southeastern University, Baptist Hospital, South Miami Hospital, Keralty General Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and Larkin Community Hospital. Dr. Schiffman is in private practice with his wife, Erika Schiffman, PA-C, in Doral, Florida, a bustling community in the heart of Miami. His practice, Miami Skin Dr., provides dermatological care to the diverse, growing residents of this thriving city. Dr Schiffman resides in Miami Beach with his wife and 2 children.
